American Society of Civil Engineers
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 160,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest national civil engineering society.
ASCE stands at the forefront of a profession that plans, designs, constructs, and operates society’s economic and social engine – the built environment – while protecting and restoring the natural environment. Through the expertise of its active membership, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public. The Society advances civil engineering technical specialties through nine dynamic institutes and leads with its many professional- and public-focused programs.
ASCE San Jose Branch Student Scholarship Program
The American Society of Civil Engineers San Jose Branch runs a Student Scholarship Program with the support of engineering firms in the Bay Area. The scholarship program's purpose is to provide support to civil engineering students at San Jose State University (SJSU), Santa Clara University (SCU), and Stanford University. The San Jose Branch is dedicated to promote the civil engineering field to students and empowering the next generation of civil engineers as they join the workforce.
The San Jose Branch hosts an annual Student Scholarship Essay Competition to provide financial funds to civil engineering student and students in related fields, regardless of academic grade criteria. Students from all three schools participate each year and contest winners receive scholarships, generously provided by a variety of local companies and ASCE members. In addition, an annual awards banquet is held to celebrate student scholarship recipients and provide an opportunity to network with local engineering professionals in the South Bay Area.
