ASBP Rural Scholarship/Loan Program

Overview: The Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy (ASBP) Student Scholarship/Loan Program at Harding University College of Pharmacy (HUCOP) supports graduates who wish to begin their career in rural Arkansas communities.

Key Details:

  • After graduation and successful completion of a defined term of pharmacy practice in a qualified rural location in Arkansas, loan funds convert to a scholarship with no repayment required

  • Funds available for disbursement in 2025 to students who will be P3 and P4 students during the 2025 calendar year

  • Loan amounts are fluid and based on several factors, including total participants and available funds

  • Selected students must sign an agreement explaining loan terms, including repayment and forgiveness conditions
  • Eligibility:

  • Members of the Class of 2025 and Class of 2026 at HUCOP

  • Students do not have to be Arkansas residents to apply

  • Students must apply each school year to qualify
  • Geographic Scope: Arkansas (rural locations)

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Complete the application form (attached to announcement)
    2. Write an essay (maximum 2 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) answering the following prompt:
    - Outline your professional goals upon graduation
    - How do you plan to contribute to improving health outcomes in rural areas?
    - Consider specific programs, initiatives, or areas of practice you are passionate about
    3. Submit electronically to Ms. Vicki Spelce (vspelce@harding.edu) in the dean's office by noon on November 13, 2024
    4. Interview: Selected students will be scheduled for an interview with a selection committee comprised of HUCOP, ASBP, and APA representatives in December 2024
