Art Project Grant ArtsWA is offering support to groups providing art programming with and for the people of Washington State. Organizations do not need to have an arts-focused mission to apply. Funding ArtsWA’s Grants to Organizations program has experienced continued exponential growth since the pandemic. Our funds have not kept pace with this growth. Our grants will be smaller thanprevious years. Applicants can request between $1,000 - $3,000 for their project. Grant amounts may vary depending on available funds and number of applications received.ArtsWA grants are reimbursement grants. Payments are made after expenses are incurred, generally at the end of your project.Eligibility

Projects that are eligible will:Be open to the public Happen between the specified datesHave arts as a main component Take place in Washington StateEligible applicant groups should have a history of producing at least one project or program in the past, and must be one of the following types of organizations:501(c)(3) nonprofit:501(c)(3)s must have current state corporate nonprofit status and current federal tax-exempt determination under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.Local Arts Agencies:Local Arts Agencies are officially designated by a local government to provide art services to the public on behalf of the local government. Examples of what we do fund: Staff salaries Artist, teaching artist, and contractor fees Production expenses.ArtsWA cannot fund any capital costs or “built environment”(such as building a stage)Rent (equipment or space) License or insurance fees Travel expenses for in-state artists or consultants Materials, supplies, software, and technology.Material fees covered by ArtsWA grant funds cannot exceed $5,000.Administrative expenses, including printing costs, postage, and other administrative fees Fees for increasing access to programming such as closed captioning, translation services, interpreters, or consultant support on these effortsIneligibility
Who Is Not Eligible:Recipients of the ArtsWA Current Year General Operating Support and Arts Service Organization Support grants Individuals For-profit organizations Government agencies, universities, colleges, academic departments, and K-12 schoolsWhat we cannot fund:Certain types of activities at schools, colleges, universities:Events, activities, projects, or performances that are part of, or involve, academic or course creditTuition assistance for college, university or other formal course of study that generates course creditEvents that take place on campus that are not easily accessible by the general public and primarily attended by matriculated students Individuals:Grants to individuals Expenses for an individual to attend contests, conferences, seminars or workshops Grants to students Student scholarships Payments to individual board members of the applicant, unless made in compliance with Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) regulations that limit such payments to professional servicesRegranting:Funds cannot be used for regranting to individuals or organizations. Funds cannot be used for regranting as scholarships.Certain types of projects or programs conducted by other state agencies.State agency programs or projects that receive state appropriations for the same project. Private purpose and restricted events:Events that are not open to the public Activities primarily benefiting the organization membership Activities financed by artist entry fees, particularly those involving cash prizes Events not commonly recognized as a public event, are an integral part of a specific religion, or promote a religious observanceConferences benefiting a small group of people Hospitality expenses such as food, flowers, receptions and similar items Fund-raisers or benefit concerts Certain types of capital expenses:Renovation, remodeling, restoration, or new construction of buildings Purchase of permanent equipment or real property, including public art installationsCertain types of general expenses and deficits:Activities or expenses outside the current grant period Activities that have occurred prior to the period designated by the contract Requests to cover previous losses incurred by the organizationOut-of-state travel:Grants cannot be used to fund travel outside Washington.Focus Areas & Funding Uses
