Overview

Artist Support Grant

Funder: Ashe County Arts Council Inc (in partnership with Alleghany Arts Council, Watauga Arts Council, and Wilkes Art Gallery; funded by the North Carolina Arts Council)

    Award Amount

    Generally $500 to $2,500, depending on:
  • Amount of money each consortium raises
  • Number of applicants
  • Number of artists selected
  • Types of projects funded

Note: Grant requests are sometimes partially funded depending on the requests. If requesting more than $2,500, applicants must clearly explain how they intend to pay for the project beyond what the grant covers.

Geographic Scope

Multi-county consortium: Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Watauga, and Wilkes counties, North Carolina

    Eligible Applicants

  • Working artists in all disciplines
  • Not recommended for beginners or hobby artists unless transitioning to career with strong body of work
  • Professors: May only apply if the project supports their career as an artist, not for university work or teaching

    Fundable Project Types

  • Creation of a new work
  • Purchase of equipment
  • Professional development workshops
  • Travel support for professional opportunities (exhibitions, conferences)
  • Development or upgrading of promotional materials (brochures, DVDs, CDs, websites)

Application Review

Jury of peers familiar with applicant's medium will review applications. Applicants selecting supplies or equipment must be prepared to justify why they need the items.
