Arc Core Investigator Program
Overview: Arc Core Investigators are world-class researchers provided with no-strings-attached, multi-year funding and cutting-edge scientific and infrastructure support to enable high-risk, high-reward science.
- Appointment Duration: Eight-year renewable terms
- Employment: Core Investigators are employed by Arc Institute
- Faculty Appointments: May hold concurrent faculty appointments at partner universities (Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCSF)

Geographic Scope
- Current faculty of all ranks at Arc partner universities (Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCSF)
- Tenure status dependent on specific search
- Individuals authorized to work in the US, as well as those requiring visa sponsorship, are eligible

- Typical Lab Size: 8-18 lab members
- Flexibility: No-strings-attached, unrestricted funding with complete autonomy to pursue research ideas
- Additional Support: Can maintain existing NIH and federal grants; eligible for foundation grants

- Location: Arc Headquarters in Palo Alto, CA (100,000 sq ft facility)
- Space Capacity: Lab and office space for up to 18 people
- Features: State-of-the-art equipment, bright sunlit spaces, open lab floor plans
- Equipment: Outfitted for major molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics workflows
Lab Space & Infrastructure
- Access to five Technology Centers: Multi-Omics, Genome Engineering, Cellular Models, Mammalian Models, and Computational
- General operational and lab support with centralized stockroom
- Shared equipment for major molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics workflows
- Access to core facilities at Arc and partner universities (e.g., in-house flow cytometry core, joint Cryo-EM knowledge center with Stanford)
- Dedicated operational support team (50+ members) covering: recruiting, scientific publications, IP, people management, communications, academic affairs
- Dedicated scientific publication support
- Administrative support for university relations and academic affairs
Resources & Support
- Can maintain faculty appointments at partner universities with associated teaching responsibilities
- May have graduate and postdoctoral students join lab
- Can continue collaborations with faculty at other universities outside current partner institutions
Teaching & Collaboration
- Arc manages intellectual property with defined policies for researchers
