Overview

NOTE: An article must be nominated by two APA members other than the author. A member may nominate only one article. Nominations should identify the author, article title, journal name, and publication year. The APA will contact nominated authors for assurances of eligibility and to secure copies of the nominated articles. Only one article per author will be considered for this prize (the only exception is if the author has different co-authors on two articles, or a co-author on one article but not the other). If more than one article per author is nominated, the author will be given the opportunity to select which article they would like to be considered. Article Prize The APA alternates giving an award to the best article and book published by a younger scholar in the previous two years. The Book and Article Prizes replace the former Franklin J. Matchette Foundation Book Prize. Funding The winner of the award will receive $2,000 and be presented with the prize check during the annual prize reception at an APA divisional meeting.

Articles published in the prior two years are eligible.Eligibility is governed by the volume year of the journal, regardless of the date on which the issue containing the nominated article actually appeared in print.To be considered for the Article Prize, an article must be nominated by two APA members other than the author. The author must be a "younger scholar," meaning that the author:was 40 years of age or younger in the year of the volume in which the article appears, orreceived their PhD 10 or fewer years before the year in which the article was published. The author must be a member of the APA. If an article is co-authored, all authors must meet the "younger scholar" criteria and all authors must be APA members for the article to be considered.
