Annual Scholarships

Purpose: Donors can establish an annual scholarship to help students attend WVU. The scholarship is awarded to qualifying students each year that the donor contributes the dollar value of the scholarship.

Geographic Scope: West Virginia University

• Flexibility: The scholarship is awarded each year the donor contributes, allowing for flexible funding
• Customization: WVU Foundation staff work with the donor to define the awarding parameters of the scholarship
• Minimum Requirement: A minimum pledge of $2,000 a year for five years is required to start a new annual scholarship
• Student Recognition: Similar recognition and reporting as endowed scholarships, with student thank you letters

How to Establish an Annual Scholarship

1. Contact WVU Foundation Staff: Work with individual Foundation staff members
2. Make Pledge: Commit to $2,000 minimum per year for five years
3. Define Parameters: Work with Foundation staff to define awarding criteria and selection parameters
4. Sign Agreement: Complete documentation with WVU Foundation
5. Make Annual Contributions: Contribute the pledged amount each year

Pledge Options

Donors making pledges under $25,000 per year may do so through:

• Recurring credit/debit card
• ACH through their financial institution
• Annual fund pledge form

Reporting

• Pledge status reports will be mailed in May and November of each year for pledges ≥$50,000
• Electronic reminders will be emailed in November of each year for pledges <$50,000
