Overview

Mission Statement The AIA promotes archaeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures and our shared humanity.  The AIA supports archaeologists, their research and its dissemination, and the ethical practice of archaeology.  The AIA educates people of all ages about the significance of archaeological discovery and advocates for the preservation of the world’s archaeological heritage. Anna Marguerite McCann Diversity Student Travel Grants For the purposes of this grant, the category “underrepresented minority” may include (but is not limited to) members of historically underrepresented ethnic and racial minority groups in the United States and Canada, for example, African-American/Canadian, Latinx- American/Canadian, Native-American/First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Asian-American/Canadian, Caribbean-American Canadian, and Pacific-Islander American/Canadian students. Recipients of the Diversity Student Travel Grant will be given a complimentary student membership in the AIA for the year in which the Annual Meeting takes place. All students are encouraged to join the AIA as student members.

Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.The application must be supported by one letter of recommendation from an instructor or academic advisor that addresses the student’s qualifications and the value of travel to the AIA Annual Meeting to the student’s intellectual formation.As part of the Archaeological Institute of America’s ongoing commitment to fieldwork and families, reasonable line items for the care of dependent and elderly family members are allowable expenses for AIA grants, fellowships, and scholarships

Ineligibility

Current officers and members of the Governing Board, staff, members of the Fellowships Committee and members of their immediate families are prohibited from applying for or receiving fellowships, grants, and other financial awards that may be offered by the Archaeological Institute of America.
