Overview

American Gold Star Manor Housing Assistance Grant

Overview: This grant provides temporary financial housing support for Gold Star parents through short-term rental and mortgage assistance.

Award Details:

  • Grants may cover up to three months of rent or mortgage payments

  • Maximum award: $5,000

  • Awards limited to housing (rent/mortgage) assistance only

  • Granted on a monthly basis until 12/31/2025 or until all funding is utilized

  • Limited to one grant per household per calendar year

  • Applicants ineligible if they have received the grant three consecutive times previously
  • Geographic Scope: United States

    Eligibility Requirements:
    1. Gold Star parent residing in the United States
    2. Low-income household/family (defined as combined income not exceeding 300% of Federal Poverty Level)
    3. Household assets must be below $70,000
    4. 2024 income limits:
    - 1 family member: $45,180
    - 2 family members: $61,320
    - 3 family members: $77,460
    - 4 family members: $93,600
    - 5 family members: $109,740
    - Each additional member: +$16,140
    5. Experiencing hardship or emergency (job loss, illness, housing instability, etc.)
    6. Cannot be a board member, foundation manager, substantial contributor to AGSM, or family member thereof

    Required Documentation:

  • DD Form 1300, DD Form 2064, or documents proving death related to military service

  • Proof of identity (state ID or Driver's License)

  • Income and asset information (wages, salaries, alimony, child support, bank statements, investments, Social Security, benefits)

  • Document showing financial obligation for housing (mortgage statement or lease)

  • Previous award dates if applicable

  • Narrative of hardship with relevant attachments (lease, mortgage, foreclosure notices, eviction documents)
  • Selection Criteria: Awards based on greatest financial need as determined by income level

    Application Process

    Submission Method: All applications must be completed online using the Manor's application portal

    Steps:
    1. Review all Manor Housing Assistance Grant Guidelines before beginning application
    2. Access the application through the American Gold Star Manor website
    3. Complete the online application with all required information
    4. Submit before the close of the grant application period

    Required Materials:

  • DD Form 1300, DD Form 2064, or military service death documentation

  • State-issued ID or Driver's License

  • Income documentation (wage statements, salary information, alimony, child support, bank statements, investment statements, Social Security or other benefit documentation)

  • Current mortgage statement or copy of lease showing rent amount

  • Previous award dates (if applicable)

  • Narrative of hardship with supporting attachments (lease, mortgage, foreclosure documents, notices of default, eviction documents)
  • Pre-Application Tool: Sample worksheet available to help gather required information before beginning the application

    Review Timeline: Only completed applications received by the close of the grant application period will be considered

  • Approved applicants receive Notice of Award with disbursement information

  • Unsuccessful applicants notified by email; applications not held for further consideration
