Our Mission The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County provides the highest quality donor services, customized and unique grant and scholarship programs, and bold initiatives to address community needs now and in perpetuity. Alvin J. Baird, Jr. Program Endowment Fund The Alvin J. Baird, Jr. Program Endowment Fund was created in 2005. The purpose of the Fund was to support the mission of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic, which provided volunteer outpatient health services to the uninsured in a manner that promoted dignity, wholeness, and coordination of services. In December 2020, the H-R Free Clinic closed its doors. The Free Clinic Board instructed TCFHR to determine the use of the annual distribution from this endowment that would most closely honor the fund’s original intent. In 2021, The Community Foundation Board directed the annual distribution will be determined by a competitive grants process, and the distribution(s) shall be made to a healthcare nonprofit organization(s) that address unmet healthcare needs in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County community. The annual grant award(s) exceeds $42,000. Nonprofit grants are made without regard to factors of gender, race, religion, national origin, or sexual orientation.Eligibility
