Overview

Alabama Poultry Farm Family of the Year Award

Funder: Alabama Poultry and Egg Association (APEA), with generous donations from Alabama Ag Credit, Alabama Farm Credit, and First South Farm Credit

Purpose: Recognizes the top poultry producing family in Alabama. Award has been given annually since 1990.

Geographic Scope: Alabama poultry farms

Nomination Criteria: Recognition is based on:

  • Overall performance as growers/producers

  • Dedication to family

  • Service to the community

    • Target Audience:

  • Broiler growers

  • Pullet/breeder growers

  • Production, breeder, or broiler managers (those making nominations)

    • Nomination Process:

  • Production, breeder, or broiler managers nominate broiler growers and/or pullet/breeder growers they feel excel

  • Nominations are turned over to a selection committee appointed by the APEA president

  • Farms nominated remain in the program for a three-year term unless otherwise notified

  • Nominators receive 2 tickets to the "Evening of Fun" concert

    • Awards:

    1st Place:

  • $11,000 poultry house washer

  • $2,500 cash

  • One-night stay for Evening of Fun concert

  • Two-night stay at APEA annual meeting

  • Plaque and farm sign

    • 2nd Place:

  • $1,500 cash

  • One-night stay for Evening of Fun concert

  • Plaque

    • 3rd Place:

  • $500 cash

  • One-night stay for Evening of Fun concert

  • Plaque

    • Winners Announcement: 2026 winners will be announced at the "Evening of Fun" concert on June 6, 2026

    1. Who Can Nominate: Production, breeder, or broiler managers
    2. Who Gets Nominated: Broiler growers and/or pullet/breeder growers

  • Record of public service involvement (committees served on, association memberships, etc.) and/or community/church activities (include activities of all family members)

  • Other information considered important to the nomination, such as:

    • - Environmental stewardship
    - Energy conservation
    - Daily mortality management
    - Waste management plan
    - Litter storage
    - Conservation practices
