Overview

Abstract Award for Health Disparities Research This $500 travel award supports recipients who are graduate students, medical students, medical residents (residents up to postgraduate year three), clinical fellows or postdoctoral fellows giving abstract-based oral or poster presentations at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) that communicate research into health or health care disparities. Objective The objective of the AGA Research Foundation Abstract Award for Health Disparities Research is to stimulate interest in gastroenterology and hepatology research that improves access and care for underserved patients leading to a narrowing of disparities. Abstract awards aim to generate interest in digestive disease research careers by providing recognition to students and fellows with exceptional abstracts accepted by AGA for presentation at DDW.

Eligibility

Applicants must be the first author of an abstract or the designated speaker of an oral presentation accepted by AGA for presentation at DDW. Applicants must be:Graduate students, medical students or medical residents (residents up to postgraduate year three) at an institution in North America who have performed original research. Clinical or postdoctoral fellows with MD, PhD or equivalent degrees at institutions in North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico).The research presented in the abstract must be related to health or health care disparities associated with a digestive disease or disorder.AGA membership is not required of applicants who are students or residents; however, they must be sponsored by an AGA member in good standing. AGA membership is required of applicants who are clinical or postdoctoral fellows.Applicants may only submit one abstract for consideration. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Ineligibility

All high school and undergraduate students are ineligible.Students and fellows training outside North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico) are ineligible.Applicants who have received any similar travel award to attend DDW using the same abstract submitted to AGA are ineligible for consideration.
