About the Foundation Mission The mission of the AEESP Foundation is to improve the state of knowledge in environmental engineering and science through the support and encouragement of excellent education, outreach, and scientific research. AEESP Award for Outstanding Teaching in Environmental Engineering & Science This award is given annually to recognize an environmental engineering or science professor who is making outstanding contributions to the teaching of environmental engineering, both at the individual's home institution and beyond. The recipient of this award will receive a plaque, a cash prize of $500, and a $750 travel allotment to attend the awards ceremony. Previous winners are ineligible for this award. This award recognizes excellence in classroom performance and related activities. Specifically, nomination packages should demonstrate that the nominee: Possesses and is able to communicate interest in and breadth and depth in subject area knowledge; Designs classroom, laboratory, field-based or other learning activities that challenge and motivate students and demand thinking and learning; and/or Is committed to professional mentoring and academic advising of students. Refer to the nomination package for the required submission requirements. Although open to nomination at any rank, the award is intended primarily to recognize a demonstrated commitment to teaching early in a person's career. Past nominations will be carried over and considered for three years and can be modified during this period.

This award is open to nomination at any rank. Requirements for nominators and letter writers:One nomination per cycle per award for a given category may be submitted by a single nominator.There is no limit on the number of nomination packages to which an individual letter writer may contribute.If a single individual is serving as a nominator or letter writer for more than one nominee during a single cycle, they will be contacted to provide a ranking of their contributions before the committee's review.Complete nomination package includes:Brief (one-page max.) cover letter from the nominator. The letter should contain a short citation, which summarizes the essence of the individual's contribution. The citation is limited to 150 characters including punctuation and spacing, Brief curriculum vitae (4-page maximum) for the nominee, Documentation related directly to the award criteria consisting of no more than 10 pages (e.g., a summary of course evaluations with reference evaluation averages for the same or similar course sizes or levels from the nominee's department or college, a demonstration of innovative or special contributions to teaching, or a demonstration of mentoring or supporting students), *One (minimum) to three (maximum) letters of recommendation from current or past students, *One (minimum) to three (maximum) letters of recommendation from faculty, administrator, or industry peers, A teaching philosophy statement (500 word maximum) written by the nominee. Full current contact information of the nominee. *For items 4 and 5, each letter should be limited to no more than two pages with a minimum of 11-point font size of Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial.

Ineligibility

Previous recipients of the award are not eligible to be re-nominated.Nomination packages that are incomplete or exceed page length maximums will not be reviewed.
