Overview

ACKCSC Junior Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000 college scholarship

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be between ages 16 and 19

  • Must document plans to attend, or provide proof of attending a higher education program of at least 6 months duration

  • Must provide evidence of interest and participation in showing Cavaliers by competing in a combination of Junior Showmanship and dog show breed or performance competition in a minimum of 5 events within the past 2 years

  • Must have AKC Junior Handling Number

  • Selection based on: financial need, academic achievement and potential
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 hours of community service completed before application submission (examples: Food Banks, Pet Shelters, Hospitals, Schools, Nursing Homes). Applicant should receive approval from current ACKCSC Junior Chair before beginning service hours

  • Submit 1-2 page essay describing experience with and interest in Cavaliers and plans for future involvement with the breed

  • Applicants should include information on additional activities with Cavaliers (regional club, therapy, rescue, education) - not required but considered in deliberation
  • Award Details:

  • This scholarship will only be awarded once to an individual, but applicants may apply multiple times before the scholarship is awarded

  • All personal application information remains confidential

    Application Process

    Deadline: Application and all requested information must be postmarked no later than December 31 for award in the following year.

    Required Materials:
    1. Official ACKCSC scholarship application form completed
    2. Official transcript showing GPA from current school (Max. file size: 2 MB)
    3. 1-2 page essay describing experience with and interest in Cavaliers and plans for future involvement with the breed (Max. file size: 2 MB)
    4. Record of 10 hours community service with official advisor's signature

    Application Form Fields:

  • Full name and contact information (address, phone, email)

  • Date of birth

  • AKC Junior Handling Number

  • Current high school or educational institution

  • Anticipated date of graduation

  • List of significant academic achievements

  • List participation in AKC shows with Cavaliers in past 2 years (show name, date, location, awards received)

  • List of any other activities with Cavaliers

  • Colleges/schools to which applicant has been accepted/applied

  • Financial information:

  • - Anticipated expenses (tuition & fees, books & supplies, room & board, clothing, other)
    - Proposed income sources (savings, aid from parents/guardians, scholarships/grants, loans, other)
  • File uploads for transcript and essay
