Overview

Overview

The THS Patricia Roppel Scholarship was established at The Alaska Community Foundation in 2015 in partnership with The Tongass Historical Society. This scholarship is in memory of Patricia “Pat” Roppel– author, historian and Alaskan. Pat moved to Alaska in 1959, where she and her husband Frank grew to love Southeastern Alaska. Her numerous published works about Southeast Alaska spanned various topics ranging from business to salmon hatcheries in the area. Pat is remembered as someone who was open and loved to share her love and knowledge with others.

Her legacy is remembered in the awarding of this scholarship. The THS Patricia Roppel Scholarship will provide one annual award of $5,000. Awards will go to students who are majoring in history of Alaska at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students either need to be enrolled or intend to enroll at an accredited college.
