Overview

AAO Global Video Contest

Status: Active - 12th Annual Contest (as of 2026)

Geographic Scope: International - open to Academy members and members-in-training worldwide

Focus Areas:

  • Surgical or clinical videos of international interest

  • Novel and innovative ophthalmic techniques

  • Educational content supported by evidence-based literature

  • Topics of great interest outside the United States (not limited to international locations)

    • Eligibility:

  • Any international Academy member or member-in-training (under supervision of Academy fellow/member)

  • Non-members can join at new low international dues levels

  • Participants may enter up to five videos into the contest

  • Grand Prize Winner should not have won the top prize in the past three years

  • All authors must submit financial disclosures on AAO.org profile

  • Co-authors who are nonmembers must create an AAO.org account

    • What They Fund/Award:

  • Grand Prize: iPad mini + mention in EyeNet magazine, Academy email newsletters, and social media

  • Selected videos featured on the ONE Network

  • Top video declared grand prize winner

    • Video Requirements:

  • Length: 5 minutes or less (< 2 minutes preferred)

  • Language: English only

  • Format: Best-quality video files (uncompressed) preferred

  • Content: Original work, evidence-based, surgical or clinical videos

  • Patient consent: If patient is individually identifiable, written consent required for internet publication

  • Must not already exist on the ONE Network

  • Authors retain copyright but grant Academy right to post on ONE Network and reuse

  • Citation required if published: "This video has been posted on the American Academy of Ophthalmology's ONE Network International Section in [YEAR]"

    • Judging Criteria:

  • Quality and depth of content

  • Level of commentary

  • Originality and novelty

  • Educational value

  • Evidence-based literature support

  • Judges: Panel of experts from Academy's Global ONE Advisory Board

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Create/Verify AAO.org Account
    - If co-author is a nonmember, they must create an AAO.org account

    2. Prepare Video
    - Ensure video meets all technical and content requirements
    - Obtain patient written consent if individual identifiable
    - Prepare in high-quality uncompressed format

    3. Financial Disclosure
    - All authors must complete financial disclosure on AAO.org profile

    4. Submit Video
    - Submit through AAO.org portal (specific submission portal not detailed in provided content)
    - Can enter up to 5 videos per participant

    5. Verification by Global ONE Advisory Board
    - Board determines if video meets all criteria
