Overview

AAO Global Video Contest

Overview: An annual competition showcasing high-quality ophthalmic surgical and clinical videos from international ophthalmologists.

Geographic Scope: International (outside the United States)

Eligibility:

  • International Academy members or members-in-training (under supervision of an Academy fellow/member)

  • Non-members may join at new low international dues levels

  • Co-authors who are non-members must create an AAO.org account

    • Award:

  • Grand Prize: iPad mini

  • Mention in EyeNet magazine, Academy email newsletters, and social media

  • Top video featured on the ONE Network

    • Focus Areas:

  • Surgical or clinical videos of international interest

  • Innovative and novel submissions

  • Evidence-based literature support

  • Topics of great interest outside the United States (not limited to international surgeries/cases)

    • Video Requirements:

  • Maximum 5 minutes length (< 2 minutes preferred)

  • English language submissions only

  • High-quality video files (uncompressed preferred)

  • Up to 5 videos per participant

  • Must not already exist on the ONE Network

  • Authors retain copyright but grant Academy right to post and reuse on ONE Network

  • Original work only

  • If patient is individually identifiable, written consent required for Internet publication

    • Restrictions:

  • Grand Prize winner should not have won top prize in past three years

  • Videos must not have been previously transferred to peer-reviewed publications

  • Quality and depth of content

  • Level of commentary

  • Originality and novelty

  • Educational value

  • Evidence-based literature support

    Application Process

    1. Submission Requirements:
    - Submit video through AAO portal
    - Complete AAO.org profile with financial disclosures
    - Co-authors who are non-members must create AAO.org account

    2. Required Materials:
    - Video file (high-quality, uncompressed preferred)
    - Financial disclosure on AAO.org profile
    - If applicable: written patient consent for publication (for identifiable patients)

    3. Video Guidelines:
    - Length: 5 minutes or less (< 2 minutes preferred)
    - Language: English
    - Format: High-quality files preferred
    - Content: Original surgical/clinical work supported by evidence-based literature

    4. Submission Terms:
    - By submitting, author agrees to:
    - Grant Academy right to post on ONE Network and reuse in any manner
    - Certify all content is original work
    - Cite video as: "This video has been posted on the American Academy of Ophthalmology's ONE Network International Section in 2024 (http://one.aao.org/international)"

    5. Selection Process:
    - Global ONE Advisory Board determines if video meets all criteria
    - Videos judged on quality, originality, educational value, and evidence support
    - Top video selected as Grand Prize Winner
