Overview

The AAG Meridian Book Award recognizes outstanding scholarly work in geography, awarded by the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Founded in 1904, AAG promotes the advancement of geography through various scholarly activities. The award honors a book that significantly contributes to the field. Eligible works include those published in English for the first time in 2022 or late 2021, authored by geographers, with the possibility of an additional Honorable Mention.

For more than 100 years the AAG has contributed to the advancement of geography. Its members from nearly 100 countries share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography, which they cultivate through the AAG's Annual Meeting, scholarly journals (Annals of the American Association of Geographers, The Professional Geographer, the AAG Review of Books and GeoHumanities), and the online AAG Newsletter.
A committee awards the annual prize for a book that makes an unusually important contribution to advancing the science and art of geography.I n any given cycle, the Meridian Book Award Committee may also select a second title from the pool of nominations to be recognized with an Honorable Mention.
