Overview

First Nations will award multiple grants to Native-led and Native-serving organizations working to ensure consistent access and availability to an abundance of culturally relevant foods that meet the needs and preferences of Native communities.

  • Native-led organizations
  • Native-serving organizations
  • Eligible applicant types include:
  • - Federal- and State-Recognized Tribal Governments - Tribal Government Programs (such as Tribal Arts Programs, Heritage Departments, Economic Development Entities, etc.) - Native-controlled 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations - Native 7871 Organizations - Fiscally-sponsored Native community organizations

    Applicants can seek funding for specific projects under the following focus areas:
  • Native Food Distribution
  • Food Life Cycle
  • Wild Food Harvesting
  • Native Resilient Foodways

Program Background

This grant program is part of First Nations' Native Agriculture and Food Systems Investments program, which supports tribes and Native communities in building sustainable food systems. The program addresses food insecurity in Indian Country (25% of Native Americans face food insecurity according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, with higher rates in rural communities).
