2024Arts EtcChamber Music Charleston is requesting funds to support both a series of in-school Classical Kids Performances at three Johns Island Elementary Schools and also a series of residencies at Haut Gap Middle School. The in-school Classical Kids Performances would take place in late September or early October at Angel Oak, Frierson, and Mt. Zion Elementary Schools. Each performance is approximately 45 minutes in length and is specifically created for children in grades K-3 and 4-5. The program includes a basic introduction to the instruments (focusing on the SC Arts Curriculum Standards requested by the music teachers), a sing-along/audience interaction piece of music, and a story set to music. For the 2024-2025 season, CMC is creating a new program to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The focal story of this program is "Dream Drum Girl by Newbery Award-winning author Margarita Engle.
