Virginia Randolph Scholarship The Virginia Randolph Scholarship was established in 1963 by The Virginia Randolph Foundation, Inc. and The First & Merchants National Bank. The Fund was established at The Community Foundation in 2008. The purpose of the Fund is to honor Virginia Estelle Randolph’s 57-year teaching career in Henrico County by supporting the provision of scholarships or tuition assistance for qualifying high school graduates from Henrico County. A daughter of slave parents, Miss Randolph began teaching in 1892 in a one-room school house on Old Mountain Road. She subsequently became nationally recognized as a pioneer educator, humanitarian, and leader in the field of education. This scholarship assures a perpetual memorial to the memory of Virginia Randolph. Scholarships are awarded primarily based on a student’s response to the essay question, commitment to community service, demonstration of academic promise and financial need.
