Overview

UCU Scholarship Program

Status: Applications open for 2026 (11th year of program)

Overview: University Credit Union's annual scholarship program supporting Maine students pursuing higher education. Since 2016, UCU has awarded $64,000 in scholarships.

Geographic Scope: Maine (University of Maine System and Maine Maritime Academy only)

Focus Areas: Higher education support for undergraduate and graduate students

Award Distribution:

  • 8 Undergraduate Scholarships - $1,000 each:

    • - University of Maine - $1,000
    - University of Maine at Augusta - $1,000
    - University of Maine at Farmington - $1,000
    - University of Maine at Fort Kent - $1,000
    - University of Maine at Machias - $1,000
    - University of Maine at Presque Isle - $1,000
    - University of Southern Maine - $1,000
    - Maine Maritime Academy - $1,000
  • 1 Graduate Scholarship - $1,000 for advanced degree student at UMS, Maine Law, or MMA

    • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Membership: Must be a UCU member with account in good standing prior to May 1, 2026 deadline

  • Primary Account Ownership: Required; joint ownership does not qualify

  • School Enrollment: Must be entering the fall 2026 semester at one of the nine eligible schools

  • Application Limit: One application per calendar year per individual

  • Exclusions: UCU employees, board members, and their immediate families are not eligible

  • Enrollment: Must be enrolled and attending college both semesters to receive full award

    • Scholarship Administration:

  • Funds disbursed directly to school upon verification of enrollment

  • Distributed equally between first and second semesters

  • Awards are non-transferable between campuses, schools, or individuals

  • Awardees notified by June 1, 2026

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Application Timeline:

  • Applications must be submitted online through UCU's website

  • Deadline: Wednesday, May 1, 2026 (must be received by this date)

  • Applicants must become UCU members by May 1, 2026

    • Application Requirements:
    1. Complete online application form (fully completed to be eligible)
    2. Specify which school applicant will attend (one of nine eligible institutions)
    3. Proof of UCU membership or membership application in process

    Selection Process:
    1. All applications reviewed by Scholarship Committee after deadline
    2. Committee verifies eligibility and requirements
    3. Scholarship awardees randomly drawn from pool of approved eligible applications
    4. One award per eligible school/program category

    After Award:

  • Awardees notified by phone and email by June 1, 2026

  • Selected awardees must submit a photo for publication in membership newsletter and press release

    • Important Notes:

  • Transcript is NOT required

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered

  • UCU reserves right to discontinue program without notice

  • UCU reserves right not to award scholarships if no qualified applicants

  • If applicant changes schools after application, must notify UCU by May 1, 2026 to move application to correct school drawing
