Overview

Season of Sharing Fund (SOS)

Status: Currently active with periodic application windows

Geographic Scope: Nine Bay Area counties including Sonoma County, California

Program Overview: The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund provides temporary assistance to help people living in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Over 33 years, the fund has distributed $138 million to help individuals and families in need.

    Eligible Populations

  • Families with dependent children 18 years and under
  • Individuals age 55 and older
  • Disabled individuals
  • U.S. Veterans
  • Recent survivors of intimate partner violence
  • Pregnant individuals in 2nd or 3rd trimester
  • Single adults aged 18 and older with no dependents

    Types of Assistance

  • Housing: Emergency housing assistance
  • Critical Family Needs: Emergency assistance for critical needs

    Important Notes

  • All funds contributed each year are distributed throughout the year
  • Assistance is provided in the form of grants paid directly to suppliers of services (landlords, medical equipment providers, etc.)
  • Application Status Update (April 2026): Applications closed for March capacity; reopening April 1-8, 2026
