High Fives Mission Create a universal shift in adventure sports that expands what is possible for those who have faced life-changing injuries. High Fives focuses on preventing life-changing injuries and provides resources and hope if they happen. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization since 2009, High Fives has helped countless injured athletes and Veterans get back to doing what they love. The Foundation aims to be the leader of education and recovery of life-altering injuries in outdoor action sports. Return to Dirt Program The High Fives Foundation announces that applications for the Return to Dirt trips are officially open. This life-changing program provides individuals with mobility limitations the opportunity to experience the great outdoors by piloting adaptive off-road vehicles into backcountry areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Return to Dirt is designed for athletes passionate about outdoor recreation but facing significant barriers due to mobility challenges. By providing specialized equipment and expert instruction, the program aims to break down these barriers and bring adventure back within reach.

Eligibility

Applicants must reside in the United States or Canada, and they must complete the trip application in the United States or Canada. The accident/injury does not need to have occurred in the United States or Canada. Return to Dirt is based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and most, if not all, trips will be in that area. This means that participants must be able to travel and stay in the Glenwood Springs area in order to be eligible.Effective January 1, 2014, to stay in compliance with the U.S. Government’s Affordable Health Care Act, applicants must have current and up-to-date health care coverage. Any applicant who has significant limits accessing outdoor/nature locations caused by inaccessibility and demonstrates passion for outdoor experiences can be granted a trip.   A valid Driver’s License must be held by participants to be considered as a potential driver of the Return to Dirt equipment. Participants with a valid license are still only granted driving privileges by Return to Dirt staff discretion. Athletes that don’t have a Driver’s License can still be considered to receive a trip, but they will participate as passengers.Trips are granted to those whose goals and dreams can be delivered upon by Return to Dirt, so make sure to include those in your application.
