Overview

The Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program assists states, tribal, and local governments to develop and implement substance use disorder (SUD) treatment programs in state and local correctional and detention facilities and to create and maintain community-based aftercare services for offenders.

Program Types:

  • Residential SUD treatment programs in prisons/juvenile detention (6-12 months engagement)

  • Residential SUD treatment programs in jails (minimum 3 months engagement)

  • Jail-based SUD treatment programs including medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

  • Aftercare services (case management, recovery support, housing, job training)
  • Funding Requirements: Federal share may not exceed 75% of project cost; 25% matching funds (cash or in-kind) required.

    Funding is on a three-year cycle starting CY24. Interested applicants should submit a Funding Interest Form.
