Resident Scholarship Program

Status: 2026 applications are being accepted (entry period closes on or before May 31, 2026)

Award Details:

  • Amount: $6,000 per scholarship

  • Number of Awards: Up to 20 scholarships per year

  • Eligible Recipients: Current and returning recipients can receive the scholarship for up to 4 consecutive years
  • Focus Areas: Educational advancement for residents of public housing and properties with Housing Choice Vouchers

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a legal citizen of the United States or permanent resident (green card holder)

  • Must reside in a public housing authority property or Housing Choice Voucher property administered by a housing authority insured by HAI Group

  • Must be attending one of the following institutions in fall 2026:

  • - Accredited or licensed technical school
    - Two-year college or university
    - Four-year college or university
    - Master's degree or PhD program
  • No age restrictions (applicants under 18 require guardian signature)

  • Can apply even if awaiting acceptance confirmation from school

  • Only allowed to apply once per year
  • Use of Funds:

  • Tuition

  • School supplies (must be purchased through school)

  • Books

  • Funds designated for fall 2026 semester; any unused funds may roll over to winter 2026, spring 2027, and summer 2027 semesters

  • Cannot be used for past-due balances from previous academic years
  • Selection Process:

  • Eligible applicants with complete applications enter a random drawing

  • Previous recipients are given priority to renew scholarships (if continuing to meet requirements)

  • Remaining available scholarships are filled by random drawing from new applicants

  • Random drawing held on or about June 5, 2026
  • Notification Timeline:

  • Around July 2026: All applicants notified that scholarship program has closed and recipients selected

  • Selected recipients notified via email with any additional required documents and deadlines

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Step 1 - Fill Out and Submit Application
    1. Access the online application on HAI Group's website
    2. Enter required information:
    - Name
    - Address
    - Contact information
    - Name of housing agency where you reside
    3. Complete the affidavit form (applicant signature required; guardian signature required if under 18)
    - Scan and include all pages
    4. Submit proof of residency form (must be completed by FSSC or resident services coordinator at your housing agency)
    5. Attach all required documents
    6. Receive confirmation email upon successful submission

    Step 2 - Selection of Recipients

  • Only complete applications from eligible participants are entered into the random drawing

  • Number of new recipient slots available depends on how many past recipients renew

  • New applicants selected via random drawing by authorized HAI Group employee

  • Drawing held on or about June 5, 2026
  • Step 3 - Notification

  • Selected applicants notified via email from scholarship@haigroup.com

  • May be required to provide additional documents (e.g., proof of enrollment form from school)

  • Failure to respond or provide documents may result in scholarship forfeiture

  • Extensions may be granted on case-by-case basis
  • Step 4 - Award and Payment

  • Upon receipt of all required documents within specified timeframe, recipient status confirmed

  • $6,000 payment sent directly to recipient's school

  • School holds funds in F.B.O (For the Benefit Of) account for student use

  • Fall 2026 semester is primary use period; unused funds may roll over through summer 2027

  • Any remaining funds after summer 2027 semester must be returned to HAI Group by September 1, 2027
  • Required Documents:

  • Completed application form

  • Affidavit form (signed by applicant or guardian if under 18)

  • Proof of residency form (completed by housing authority/property official)

  • Proof of enrollment form (from school, obtained during Step 3)
  • Important Notes:

  • Multiple applications will not be accepted; only first submission counted

  • If selected, notification of non-selection provided via email once all 20 recipients confirmed

  • No restrictions on moving after first year of scholarship; eligibility extends up to 4 consecutive years regardless of residency changes
