Funder: Texas Dance Hall Preservation Inc (TDHP)

Program Type: Matching grants for historic Texas dance hall restoration and renovation

Award Amount: Up to $10,000 per grant

Match Requirement: $1-to-$1 matching grant (applicants with matching funds in hand receive bonus points in scoring)

Eligible Applicants

• Public or private nonprofit organizations
• For-profit organizations (with IRS restrictions)
• Must own or lease a qualifying hall
• Must be TDHP members
• Must have current tax-exempt (501c) status

Eligible Projects

• Building repairs (roofs, dance floors, and other critical items)
• Building condition assessments by qualified architect or structural engineer
• Restoration or renovation of historic Texas dance halls
• Work not yet completed (completed work is ineligible)

Building Eligibility Requirements

• Must have historically hosted community dances
• Must be largely intact
• Must feature a dedicated dance floor and stage
• May include a bar or kitchen, but primary function must have been as a dance or community hall—not a restaurant or bar
• May be freestanding or part of larger buildings

Project Timeline Requirements

• Work must begin within three months of grant award
• Work must be completed within 12 months
• Final report required with in-progress photographs, invoices, and proof of payment
