P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

Purpose: Non-renewable scholarship for graduating women in their final year of high school who demonstrate excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Status: Ongoing program

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Award Details:

  • Award amount: $2,500 (non-renewable)

  • Must be used in academic year following graduation or will be forfeited

  • All applicants recommended by a local P.E.O. chapter
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Recommended by a local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood

  • Citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada

  • Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Exhibits excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success

  • Plans to attend an accredited postsecondary education institution in the United States or Canada full time or part time in the fall of the academic year following high school graduation
  • Evaluation: Nondiscriminatory basis without consideration of race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability or P.E.O. connection

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Step 1 - Chapter Recommendation:

  • Members of local P.E.O. chapter interview student

  • Chapter votes and recommends student
  • Step 2 - Online Application:
    1. P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant instructions for logging into online account
    2. Student must submit within 30 days of receiving email
    3. Application includes:
    - Information about the student
    - Extracurricular and community service/volunteer activities
    - 700-word essay
    - Two letters of recommendation
    - Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)

    Timeline:

  • Awards announced annually by April 30

  • Notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters
