Summary

The NJDEP: It Pay$ to Plug In Grant offers financial support for the acquisition and upkeep of electric vehicle charging stations. Overview

NOTE: Applications for Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations are being accepted now and will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Electric Vehicle Charging Solicitation It Pay$ to Plug In provides grants to offset the cost of purchasing and maintaining electric vehicle charging stations. The program is designed to expand New Jersey’s growing network of electric vehicle infrastructure, allowing residents, businesses, and government agencies to purchase and drive electric vehicles. EVs dramatically reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality for everyone. In celebration of Earth Day and DEP’s 50th Celebration, the Department announced that it will dedicate ~$7.6 M to electric vehicle charging infrastructure prioritizing fast chargers using VW settlement funds and other funding sources as they become available.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Program, an applicant must meet the following conditions:Be licensed to do business in New Jersey, including businesses, government entities, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and multi-unit dwellings (apartments, condominiums, and townhouses). Private residential dwellings other than multi-unit dwellings are not eligible for grants.The applicant must register for a Vendor ID from NJStart or submit a copy of their NJ W9 to be submitted to NJ Treasury.The applicant must comply with the requirements in the Certification Checklist and the Deadlines Acknowledgement Form provided through the SAGE Portal.The applicant may be asked to provide access to the charging stations for site visits by program staff to verify installation.Level 1 and Level 2 charging station applicants may not be approved for more than $500,000.00 in projects in a calendar year.Previous applications submitted are subject to the previous Terms & Conditions of the Program.The revised requirements in this document will only be applied to new applications submitted after August 13, 2025.

Ineligibility

Private residential dwellings other than multi-unit dwellings are not eligible for grants.
