Mobile Artist in Residence (MAiR) Program

Overview: The Mobile Artist-in-Residence program invites one Northern New Mexico-based artist to spend eight weeks using the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum's Art to G.O. Truck as a mobile creative studio. Inspired by O'Keeffe's deep connection to place, her spirit of experimentation, and her belief that creativity belongs in everyday life, this residency focuses on collaboration, curiosity, and showing up with community.

Mission: At the core of MAiR is the idea that art grows through connection. The program seeks artists whose work involves building relationships, listening, and making things with others—whether through hosting workshops, shared experiments, or co-creating with communities.

    Geographic Scope

  • Open to: Artists living and working in Northern New Mexico
  • No housing provided: Applicants must be able to commute to scheduled engagements throughout the residency

    Eligibility

  • Living in Northern New Mexico (required)
  • Working across disciplines: visual art, sound, textile, performance, and more
  • Educators and designers whose practice involves community-based or collaborative making are encouraged to apply
  • Must be able to commute to scheduled engagements

    Residency Structure

  • Duration: 8 weeks, beginning September (flexible start date)
  • Week 1: Orientation & Research—meet the team, explore the truck
  • Weeks 2-3: Concept Refinement—determine project direction and community partners
  • Weeks 4-5: Community Engagement—use Art Truck to host workshops, drop-ins, activations
  • Weeks 6-7: Reflection—build out culminating project
  • Week 8: Culmination—could be print, zine, talk, walk, gathering, or combination

    What Artists Receive

  • $4,000 stipend (paid in 2 installments)
  • Up to $1,000 in reimbursable project supplies
  • Access to the Art to G.O. Truck as mobile studio
  • Access to on-site studio space during residency hours
  • Help with scheduling, community outreach, and logistics
  • Curatorial support and thought partnership
  • Art Truck staff handle all driving and operation
  • Artist retains ownership: All work created remains the property of the artist
