Summary

The Illinois Climate Pollution Reduction Grant's Community Geothermal Planning and Pilots Phase One Grants aim to accelerate the deployment of community-scale geothermal energy systems. The initiative focuses on reducing carbon pollution by over 15,000 metric tons by 2030 and serving 1,100 households. With funding for planning and design of projects, this program seeks to create replicable and cost-effective geothermal solutions that contribute to significant greenhouse gas reductions, fostering sustainable energy practices in Illinois.

Overview

On July 1, 2004, the Office of Banks and Real Estate, the Department of Financial Institutions, the Department of Insurance, and the Department of Professional Regulation consolidated into a new state agency called the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) pursuant to the provisions of Executive Order Number 6 (2004). Our Mission Protecting consumers and promoting trust and reliability in professional and financial services in Illinois through effective regulation and licensing. Illinois Climate Pollution Reduction Grant: Community Geothermal Planning and Pilots Phase One Planning Grants The Community Geothermal Planning and Pilots program is designed to accelerate the deployment of community scale geothermal energy systems. These systems are intended to serve multiple buildings or clusters of homes rather than individual buildings or campuses. The program emphasizes projects that demonstrate measurable greenhouse gas reduction, and specifically, this initiative aims to: Reduce carbon pollution by 15,099 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent (mt CO₂e) by 2030,Achieve cumulative reductions of 128,562 mt CO₂e by 2050, andServe 1,100 Illinois households with community geothermal systems by 2030. Through a two-phase approach consisting of Phase One Planning Grants and Phase Two Pilot and Project Deployments, the IFA/CB will fund planning, design, and construction of community scale geothermal systems that demonstrate replicable, cost effective, and community driven models for decarbonized community or shared geothermal systems. The Community Geothermal Phase One Planning Grants will fund planning and design activities for projects that have already begun preliminary development and can demonstrate early progress toward community-scale geothermal deployment.
