Overview

Hightower & Kloos Legacy Fund for International Volunteers

Overview: This endowment fund honors Molly Hightower, Ryan Kloos, and Erin Kloos, whose service and spirit continue to inspire volunteers. The fund was created following the January 12, 2010 Haiti earthquake that killed NPH USA international volunteer Molly Hightower and visitor Ryan Kloos, and injured visitor Rachel Prusynski and NPH USA volunteer Erin Kloos.

Purpose: To memorialize the contributions of Molly Hightower and Erin and Ryan Kloos to the NPH family while ensuring future volunteers can walk in their footsteps and support children and families across NPH programs.

Geographic Scope: Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly NPFS (Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs) in Haiti and other NPH homes

Eligibility:

  • Must have been accepted to volunteer at NPFS (or another NPH home if NPFS will not have a volunteer in a given year)

  • Must plan to work in a human service field

  • Open to international volunteers
  • Award Usage: Recipients can use the award to cover any expenses associated with volunteering including:

  • Airfare

  • Vaccines

  • Language school

  • Special projects during service
  • Selection Process:

  • One or two endowment recipients selected each year

  • Application and review process managed by steering committee

  • Steering committee comprised of: Mike and Mary Hightower, Kathy Shannon, Erin Kloos, and Robin Forestal

  • Staffed by NPH USA International Engagement Manager Jennifer Foster
