Harold & Edna Bragg Healthcare Education Scholarship Fund

Overview: A perpetual scholarship fund established in 1995 by Edna Bragg's bequest of over one million dollars to the Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation. To date, more than $1.5 million has been distributed from the interest earned on this endowed asset.

Geographic Scope: Lake Chelan area, Washington (hospital district)

Focus Areas:

  • Healthcare-related education for college students

  • Continuing education for healthcare professionals and caregivers

  • Support for EMS, nursing, physical therapy, sonography, radiology, and other healthcare fields

    • Eligibility:

  • Must have lived or worked in the Lake Chelan area for at least one year, OR

  • Graduated from Chelan or Manson High School

  • Must plan to attend a class or training in the U.S. certified by Lake Chelan Health Hospital, a professional certification agency, and/or the State of Washington

  • Recipients chosen on merit, need, and qualifications

    • What Funds Cover:

  • Ordinarily awarded for tuition or registration only

  • In some cases may cover other purposes as approved by the committee

    Award Selection:

  • A scholarship committee made up of members of the Foundation Board of Directors reviews applications

  • Awards are granted on a "funds available" policy

  • Partial scholarships may be awarded

  • Applicants may re-apply at appropriate intervals

  • Scholarship funds sent directly to the school unless otherwise approved

    • 2018 Impact: Supported 118 students and caregivers with $98,157 total:

  • 41 local student scholarships: $67,867

  • 77 continuing education requests: $30,290

  • Committee reserves right to reject any or all applications based on qualifications, purpose, or fund availability

  • Partial scholarships may be awarded

  • Public recognition through LCHWF promotional materials (print, radio, Facebook, website)

    • Important Notes:

  • If scholarship applicant does not attend named school, funds must be returned

  • Student may be reconsidered for scholarship at future date

  • No materials will be returned

  • Application will not be considered unless signed and dated
