Good Idea Grants

Overview: The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation's showcase for innovation, creativity, and helping all children to reach high levels of achievement. Mini-grants designed to enhance innovation in the classroom and challenge teachers to think creatively and boldly.

Geographic Scope: Hawaii public schools

Eligibility:

  • K-12 public school teachers employed by the Hawaii State Department of Education

  • Teachers at schools run by the Department of Education

    • Focus Areas:

  • Programs that provide students developmentally appropriate opportunities to grow and become creative, innovative, and critical thinkers

  • Strengthen and expand opportunities for problem-solving, discovery, and exploratory learning (including after-school settings)

  • Focus on core competencies using activities that support student application of classroom knowledge to real-life challenges

  • Curriculum driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning

  • Students actively engage in situations to find solutions

    • What They Don't Fund:

  • Teacher travel

  • In-service training

  • Transportation or buses

  • Field trips

  • Hiring of speakers, consultants, and substitutes

  • Awards or incentives

  • Food or rewards

  • Parties

  • Supplies, equipment, and furniture generally provided by the State

  • Requests above $3,000
