FoGP Diversity Scholarships

Organization: Friends of Griffith Park

Focus: Supporting students of color pursuing higher education in environmental studies and related fields

Geographic Scope: Los Angeles, California - primarily serves students from North Hollywood High School Zoo Magnet Center

Eligibility:

  • Students of color attending North Hollywood High School Zoo Magnet Center (Zoo Magnet School)

  • Demonstrate academic excellence

  • Show desire to become environmental stewards

  • Pursuing higher education in environmental studies, biology, animal science, or related fields
  • Award Details:

  • Multiple scholarships awarded annually (3+ recipients per year based on 2021-2024 awards)

  • Funds can be used for various higher education financial expenses

  • All applicants receive honorary FoGP membership

  • Selected awardees receive networking and mentoring opportunities
  • Program History:

  • Established in 2021

  • Designed to address racial inequality and make Griffith Park accessible to all Angelenos

  • Past recipients (2024): Students from UC Davis, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and other universities

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Timeline:

  • Application opens: First week of January

  • Deadline: First week of May (based on 2023-2024 cycle; previously March 4)

  • Notification of results: April/May
  • Required Materials:

  • Completed application form

  • Student essay demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship

  • Academic records/transcripts

  • Statement of educational goals and career aspirations
  • Application Format:

  • Note: Two application types available - standard scholarship and continuing education scholarship (for previous awardees)
