Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award

Geographic Scope: Wisconsin

Award Recognition: Annual recognition of a physician exemplifying the tradition of "Physician as Teacher"

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Recognized by peers, residents and students for excellence in teaching, and is compassionate to patients as well as to those being taught

  • Directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance quality of life

  • Provides credible role model as healer and human being to community, and as professional in science and art of medicine to colleagues, other health professionals, young physicians in training, and medical students

  • Member in good standing of the Academy

    • Eligibility:

  • Must be WAFP member in good standing

  • Past winners cannot be re-nominated for same award but may be nominated for another WAFP award

  • Current Board of Directors members may not be considered for WAFP awards while on Board; eligible for consideration after Board term completion

    • Recognition:

  • Honored at WAFP Annual Business Meeting on Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee

    Nomination Process

    1. Who Can Nominate: Peers, residents, students, and others familiar with nominee's teaching excellence
    2. Submission Method: Send nomination to Wisconsin Academy
    3. Nomination Deadline: July 1 (annual)
    4. Content: Nomination should demonstrate how nominee meets evaluation criteria, highlighting teaching excellence and mentorship

      Required Information:

    • Nominee name and WAFP membership status
    • Nominator name and relationship to nominee
    • Detailed explanation of teaching excellence and mentorship contributions
    • Examples of impact on residents, students, and medical community
