Emily Lee Scholarship

Overview: A long-standing scholarship program begun in the 1980s and awarded annually. The program is directed toward deserving young people pursuing health care careers and is named to honor the vision and spirit of Emily Lee, wife of Dr. John K. Lee (after whom Lee Hospital was named).

Historical Background

Emily Lee bequeathed money from her estate to be used toward founding a homeopathic hospital in her husband's name. Dr. John K. Lee was a native of Pittsburgh who served in the Civil War, graduated from Hahnemann Medical School, and came to Johnstown to practice medicine. Dr. Lee died during the Johnstown flood of 1889.
