Mission, vision, and core values

Our mission, vision, and core values guide our work to serve the physics community, our members, and society.

DCMP APS Global Physics Summit Caregiver Awards

DCMP recognizes that caregiving responsibilities can pose challenges to attending the 2025 APS Global Physics Summit. Awards of up to $800 are available for DCMP meeting attendees who incur extra caregiver expenses during the meeting. Eligibility would require that the attendee participate in a DCMP-related activity, such as giving a talk on a DCMP topic (sorting categories 7, 9, 11-15; contributing an abstract before the deadline is sufficient), or doing condensed matter physics-based news coverage or public engagement activities.

Awards may be used for either child or adult dependent care at the meeting, for extra dependent care at home while the grant recipient is at the meeting, or for caregiver assistance for attendees with disabilities. The funds can also be used toward on-site care or transportation costs for either dependents or caregivers. The recipient will certify that the requested funds are extra expenses due to the travel, and are above and beyond normal care expenses (for example, day care or home nursing costs).

A dependent for purposes of this program is defined as

* a child, newborn through 16 years of age (or any physically or mentally disabled child under the age of 18 who is unable to care for themself), who resides with the applicant and for whom the applicant provides primary support, or
* a disabled adult/elder (child, spouse, parent, parent-in-law, or grandparent) who spends at least eight hours per day in the applicant's home and for whom the applicant has responsibility.
