DAV Charitable Service Trust Veteran Grants Program

Geographic Scope: Throughout the nation

Focus Areas:

  • Services for sick, wounded, homeless, or at-risk veterans

  • Rehabilitation for physical and/or psychological wounds from combat

  • Food and shelter for homeless or at-risk veterans

  • Mobility items for veterans with vision loss, hearing loss, or amputations

  • Therapeutic or recreational activities for those with physical and/or psychological limitations

  • Education or training for veterans seeking career-readiness and skill development

  • Support for families and caregivers of veterans
  • Eligibility:

  • Applicant organizations must be operational and recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt (501(c)(3))

  • Must have access to required documentation including:

  • - Board of Directors' list for current fiscal year with term dates
    - Program/project budget for requested services for current fiscal year
    - Annual operating budget for current fiscal year
    - IRS Letter of Determination
    - IRS Form W-9
    - Audited financial statements and opinion of certified public accountant (GAAP or GAS)
    - Form 990 filed with IRS
  • Applicants may receive consideration only once per twelve (12) months

  • Returning applicants must have minimum time elapsed and satisfied all accountability measures from previous grant agreement
  • What the Trust Does NOT Fund:

  • Goodwill advertising

  • Initiatives affiliated with political or religious campaigns/concepts

  • Endowment funds

  • Pilot or newly established projects

  • Capital items including acquisition or maintenance/rehabilitation of property

  • Background:
    Since establishment, the DAV Charitable Service Trust has led a grant program for not-for-profit organizations that fulfill needs for sick, wounded, and homeless or at-risk veterans. The Trust recognizes that veteran needs are often unique to particular military families or veterans of specific eras.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Application Cycles:
    The Trust accepts grant applications during four cycles within the calendar year:

  • January Cycle: Opens first business day of January, closes last business day of January

  • April Cycle: Opens first business day of April, closes last business day of April

  • July Cycle: Opens first business day of July, closes last business day of July

  • October Cycle: Opens first business day of October, closes last business day of October
  • Required Documentation:
    All applicants must submit the following with their application:
    1. Board of Directors' list for the current fiscal year with term dates
    2. Program/project budget for the requested services for the current fiscal year
    3. Annual operating budget for the current fiscal year
    4. IRS Letter of Determination
    5. IRS Form W-9
    6. Audited financial statements and opinion of certified public accountant in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or Government Accounting Standards (GAS)
    7. Form 990 filed with the IRS

    Documentation Fiscal Year Requirements:

  • January Cycle: December 31, 2024 (or more recent)

  • April Cycle: March 31, 2025 (or more recent)

  • July Cycle: June 30, 2025 (or more recent)

  • October Cycle: September 30, 2025 (or more recent)

    Organizations must sign into the Trust's application site at https://cst.dav.org/grants/ to submit applications.
