Overview

Congressional Internship Program (CIP)

Overview: Internship program allowing young Hungarian-Americans and English-speaking Hungarians from Hungary and neighboring countries to gain hands-on experience at the U.S. Congress and Washington-based institutions.

Established: 2005

Program Duration: Spring, summer, and fall sessions; internship duration depends on host office requirements but shall not exceed four months.

Funding: The Coalition's internship grant covers living expenses and local transportation expenses in the United States for the duration of the internship.

Scope: Participants gain experience through assignments to Congressional offices, think tanks, and non-government organizations, learning about the workings of both U.S. government and the non-profit world.

Geographic Scope: United States (Washington, DC area)

  • Professional networking in chosen fields
  • Eligibility:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or Hungary, or a member of an ethnic Hungarian community in Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, or Slovenia

  • Must be enrolled as a student in their respective country of origin or in the U.S.

  • Must have completed at least one full year of studies

  • Must have proof of excellent written and oral communication skills in English

  • Outstanding academic standing required
  • Requirements:

  • Depending on host institution requirements, internship participants are expected to complete a Coalition research project of mutual interest during their stay in the United States

    3. Two letters of recommendation regarding the applicant's personal and academic achievements
