Overview

Commercial & Multifamily Funding Program

Funder: Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE)

Status: Active, applications accepted on rolling basis

Geographic Scope: Pitkin County, Eagle County, and Garfield Counties, Colorado

Award Amounts:

  • Rebates: 50% of project cost up to $25,000 for standard participants; up to $50,000 for Community Priority Participants

  • Grants: Up to $200,000 per project
  • Focus Areas:

  • Commercial and multifamily building electrification projects

  • Energy efficiency projects

  • Heat pump installations (space heating, water heating, snowmelt)

  • Insulation and air sealing improvements

  • EV charging infrastructure

  • Roofing, attics, walls, floors, crawlspaces

  • Appliances and cooking upgrades (including induction cooktops replacing natural gas)

  • Control systems and building management systems

  • Heat-recovery and heat pump ventilation systems

  • Design assistance and commissioning

  • Custom rebates for significant energy savings projects
  • Eligibility:

  • Commercial building owners in Pitkin, Eagle, or Garfield Counties

  • Multifamily buildings defined as complexes with 4 or more units

  • Multifamily projects must be in common area and/or every unit of building

  • Community Priority Participants may qualify for enhanced funding

  • Existing buildings (new construction considered for grants but not standard rebates)
  • What They Fund - Rebates:

  • 50% of project cost up to $25,000 for standard participants

  • 50% of project cost up to $50,000 for Community Priority Participants
  • What They Fund - Grants:

  • Larger, long-term, more impactful projects

  • Implementation projects (design work supported through rebates, not grants)

  • Energy efficiency and building electrification in existing buildings

  • New construction applications also considered

  • Projects demonstrating high potential for greenhouse gas reduction
  • What They Don't Fund:

  • Design work only (grants are for implementation only; design supported through rebates)

  • Rebates for projects that don't meet eligible project types
  • Community Priority Participants:

  • Enhanced funding available for qualified applicants

  • Includes teachers, childcare workers, veterans, government staff, and other under-resourced community members

  • Savings up to $10,000 on single residential projects

  • Savings up to $50,000 for commercial or multifamily building projects
  • Additional Support:

  • CORE staff analyzes greenhouse gas impact before application submission

  • Energy Concierge team available for consultation

  • Help accessing additional funding beyond CORE's rebates (Holy Cross Energy, State of Colorado, federal Inflation Reduction Act)

    How to Apply for Commercial & Multifamily Rebates and Grants

    For Rebates:

    1. Initial Consultation: Contact CORE's Energy Concierge team to discuss your project
    2. Determine Eligibility: Verify project qualifies and identify eligible project types
    3. Get Cost Estimates: Obtain project cost estimates
    4. Submit Application: Complete the commercial or multifamily rebate application
    5. CORE Review: Energy Concierge team will contact you
    6. Approval & Implementation: Proceed with approved project

    For Grants:

    1. Initial Contact: Contact Energy Concierge team to discuss interest in applying for a grant
    2. GHG Analysis: CORE staff works with applicants to analyze greenhouse gas impact of project
    3. Submit Application: Complete grant application
    4. Review Process: Applications accepted on rolling basis as funds allow
    5. Award & Implementation: Grants awarded for implementation projects
