Biathlon Rifle Scholarship

Program Overview: Each spring, the NSAA Biathlon Committee awards several club rifles, including Menaker and Poss memorial rifles, to promising Alaskan biathletes for use in their training over the following racing season. Scholarship rifles are returned to the club each spring for inspection. Athletes may reapply for their rifles after the annual inspection and maintenance.

Geographic Scope: Alaska (must be continuous Alaska resident)

Award: Club rifle for training use (not monetary award)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Age 12 and above

  • Must be a continuous resident of Alaska

  • NSAA membership is required

  • Frequent participation: minimum of 30 openings/events in biathlon over the previous 12 months (determined by range log)

  • Demonstrated responsibility and dedication to the sport

  • Only right-handed rifles available due to limited left-handed rifles in inventory
  • Award Terms:

  • Awardees are responsible for rifle maintenance and any loss or damage to rifle while in their possession

  • Awards may be limited by rifle availability

  • Rifles must be returned to the club each spring for inspection and maintenance

  • Athletes may reapply after annual inspection

    Application Process

    1. Complete Online Application: Fill out the NSAA Online Rifle Scholarship Application at anchoragenordicski.com

    2. Obtain Coach Recommendation: Have coach submit recommendation as .pdf document to program@anchoragenordicski.com

    3. Document Participation: Range log will be used to verify minimum 30 openings/events participation over previous 12 months

    4. If Re-Applying: Indicate specifically how much use you made of the rifle in the past year

    5. Submit by Deadline: All applications due by April 30, 2026

      Timeline

    • Application period: April 1 - 30, 2026
    • Late applications: Will be processed if rifles still available for scholarship
    • Award notification: Late spring/early summer
