Baylee Barradas Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Scholarships are available to eligible applicants to cover a portion of the private-pay cost of the Transition Academy program. Scholarships awarded are applied as a credit to the cost of the program.

    • Must be accepted into the Transition Academy before scholarship consideration

      Award Criteria

      Panelists from First Place AZ and SARRC review applications using a scoring system:
    • Highest possible score: 16 points (4 points per question)
    • Rating Scale:
    • - 4 points: Evidence of strong understanding and strong motivation to achieve personal goals - 3 points: Evidence of motivation for personal achievement - 2 points: Evidence of minimal interest and motivation - 1 point: No evidence supporting want or need
    • Reviewers also consider motivation demonstrated in SARRC interview
    • Awards determined by consensus discussion among panelists

      Annual Reporting Requirements

      Scholarship recipients must provide annual statements including:
    • Student statement: Favorite activities, new skills learned, personal goals
    • Parent/Guardian statement: Learning experiences, impact on student and family, next steps for employment and independence
    • Staff statement: Information from spring semester report

    Application Process

    1. Eligibility Check: Applicant must complete initial Transition Academy program application, complete SARRC interview, meet admission requirements, and receive program acceptance letter

    2. Financial Need Verification: Each student accepted into the Transition Academy who meets financial need will receive a scholarship application link via email

    3. Complete Online Application: Submit responses to all required application questions via the online form

    1. Describe why you would like to attend the Transition Academy. What skills do you still need to learn or practice to become more self-reliant in your everyday life?
    2. Why is being employed important to you? Name three jobs you would like to have in the future.
    3. At the Transition Academy, you will be sharing an apartment with roommates. What will you like most about having roommates? What challenges might you have living with roommates?
    4. Explain in a few sentences why you would like to attend the Transition Academy.
    5. What does "community" mean to you? How do you plan to connect to your community? How do you plan to find outlets for your personal interests and passions? (Provide examples, such as attending events related to your interests)
