Overview

USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Scholarship

Purpose: To honor President George Bush's commitment to public service and recognize his belief that service is a noble calling

Award Details:

Two $2,500 scholarships awarded annually

One undergraduate and one graduate student receive the award each year

Recipients' schools may also receive additional support

Eligible Applicants:

Crew members of USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) aircraft carrier

Air wing members aboard CVN 77

Family members (spouses and children) of crew or air wing members

Must have served on CVN 77 within the last 24 months

Priority: Candidates attending The George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University

Geographic Scope: United States (accredited institutions)

Academic Requirements:

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Good academic standing

Planning to attend an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States

Must demonstrate an exemplary record in school and community activities

Ineligible:

Members of the governing body of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation

Employees of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation

Family members of Foundation board members or employees

How to Apply

Required Materials:
1. Completed application form (download 2026 CVN 77 Scholarship Application)
2. Official transcript
3. Letter of recommendation from a community service leader/supervisor

Submission Process:
1. Submit application and supporting materials to the Admin Office of CVN 77
2. The Admin Office will certify service on CVN 77
3. The Admin Office will forward all applications to the George & Barbara Bush Foundation

Important Dates:

Deadline: May 15, 2026

Scholarship recipients are notified in June

Payment is made directly to the school in the fall semester of the same year

Award Disbursement:

One-time payment made directly to the school indicated by the recipient

Amount is payable in the fall semester of the same year
