SIR Gold Medal

Purpose

The highest honor bestowed by the Society of Interventional Radiology. Established in 1996, the Gold Medal is awarded for excellence and lifetime achievement in interventional radiology to individuals who have rendered exceptional service to the field.

    Award Criteria

    Gold Medal recipients exemplify individuals who have:
  • Dedicated their past and present talents to advancing the quality of patient care through interventional radiology
  • Achieved outstanding accomplishments that help ensure the future of the field
  • Demonstrated exceptional service to interventional radiology
  • Made significant contributions to advancing the profession

    Selection Process

  • The SIR Gold Medal Awards Committee selects the medalists
  • Committee's recommendation(s) are sent to the SIR Board of Directors for approval
  • Following approval, the SIR president calls the honorees to announce their selection
  • Committee may submit not more than three names for endorsement to the Board of Directors

    Committee Composition

    Gold Medal Awards Committee:
  • SIR President (chair)
  • Immediate Past President
  • President-Elect
  • Chair of the Fellows' Affairs Committee
  • Two additional at-large members (appointed by president)

    Important Notes

  • Nominations received in previous years are reactivated the following year unless withdrawn
  • Members of SIR Board of Directors and chair of Fellows' Affairs Committee may not act as primary nominators or sponsors
  • Board members and Fellows' Affairs Committee chair are ineligible to be nominated or receive the Gold Medal during their term of office

How to Submit a Nomination

1. Nomination Content: Submissions should describe the nominee's qualifications for the award

2. Required Materials:
- Detailed curriculum vitae (CV) of the nominee
- At least two letters of support from other SIR members

3. Submission Method: Email nominations to nominations@sirweb.org

4. Primary Nominator Responsibility: The primary nominator is responsible for initiating the submission of at least two letters of support from other SIR members

5. Deadline: May 31 annually
