Overview

Shorewood Excellence in Teaching Award

Funder: Shorewood SEED Foundation

Geographic Scope: Shorewood, Wisconsin

Purpose: Recognizes the highest professional achievements in teaching within the Shorewood School District

Award Amounts:

  • Individual teacher: $7,000

  • Group of 2 teachers: $10,000

  • Group of 3 or more teachers: $15,000
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Certified teachers currently employed full-time by Shorewood School District

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the district

  • Must be nominated by one or more students, parents, teachers, or community members

  • Teachers are eligible to win every 7 years (whether as individual or part of group)
  • Selection Criteria - Individual Teachers:

  • Student Achievement: Fosters academic and personal growth of all students; upholds rigorous learning and behavior standards; promotes leadership and ownership of learning

  • Inspiration: Creates positive learning atmosphere; shows enthusiasm for learning and student growth; engages students through creative and innovative approaches

  • Culture and Community: Communicates effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders; engages parents as partners; collaborates with colleagues
  • Selection Criteria - Collaborative Groups:

  • Collaboration is for delivery of curriculum, teaching methods, or classroom aids

  • Assists in fostering academic and personal growth

  • Upholds rigorous learning standards

  • Promotes student leadership and ownership of learning

  • Creates positive learning environment

  • Engages students through creative and innovative approaches

  • Collaborative curriculum/methods have been implemented

  • Curriculum/methods are not position-dependent and can be implemented by similar teacher groups

    How to Apply

    Application Timeline

    • January 15, 2026 – Begin teacher nominations
    • February 28, 2026 – Nomination period ends
    • March 4, 2026 – Nominated teachers invited to apply
    • April 13, 2026 – Teacher applications due
    • First week of June – Winners announced

    Nomination Process

    Option 1: Individual Teacher Nomination
    1. Submit nomination form for individual teacher
    2. Include nominator's name, phone, and email
    3. Nominee's name, phone, and email
    4. Describe why teacher should be recognized
    5. Select relationship to nominee (parent, colleague, neighbor, community member, or self-applying teacher)

    Option 2: Collaborative Group Nomination
    1. Submit nomination form for collaborative group
    2. Include nominator's name, phone, and email
    3. Group name and names/emails of all teachers in group
    4. Describe why group should be recognized
