  • Pursuing a degree or certification in a health-related field
  • Program Purpose: The Island Health & Wellness Foundation created this scholarship to encourage local students to pursue careers in healthcare fields, addressing critical shortages of trained health care workers in rural areas. The foundation aims to "grow our own" by supporting local talent.

    Scholarship Dedication: Established in honor of Sandy Eaton, a local nurse who worked at Island Medical Center for over 40 years until her retirement in December 2020. The scholarship recognizes her professionalism, compassion, and kindness in service to the community.

    Mission Alignment: Part of IHWF's broader work in provider and staff recruitment and retention, recognizing the serious shortage of trained healthcare workers in rural communities nationwide.
