Purpose
The Safe Housing grant funds pet programs that allow domestic violence survivors to escape abusive situations with their pets by providing safe housing/boarding for animals while survivors stay in domestic violence shelters.- Creating pet-friendly spaces at domestic violence shelters
- Building/refurbishing kennels for pets of DV survivors at animal rescues
- Combining kenneling and fostering for pets of DV survivors
- Enabling co-sheltering of pets and their human companions
Focus Areas
- Primary Applicants: Nonprofit domestic violence organizations and animal organizations
- Partnership Requirement: Domestic violence shelters must partner with animal organizations (or vice versa)
- Special Pilot: In 2024, a pilot program was launched for homeless shelters to apply for Safe Housing funds (deadline: March 1, 2024)
