MLBCMA Scholarship Fund

About the Program

A self-funded scholarship program designed to promote higher education for members of MLB clubhouse support staff. The fund is available to all Major League clubhouse attendants, bat boys, ball boys, and ball girls.

Award Structure

  • Two $10,000 annual scholarships: One awarded to American League applicant, one to National League applicant
  • Melvin and Ellen Gordon Family Scholarship: $25,000 annual award (partnership with Tootsie Roll CEO Ellen Gordon, established 2023)
  • Lesser grants: Additional awards may be given throughout the year based on need and circumstance

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a high school graduate with a minimum 3.5 GPA

  • Currently work or have worked as a bat boy, ball boy, ball girl, or clubhouse attendant for an MLB team

  • Submit a completed application form

  • Provide official transcripts with proof of GPA

  • Identify the MLB team and sponsoring clubhouse manager

  • Write a personal letter about experience as clubhouse staff

  • Obtain a letter of recommendation from sponsoring clubhouse manager

  • Provide three professional references (NOT including clubhouse manager)

  • Submit list of professional, trade, business, athletic, volunteer, or civic activities
  • Selection Criteria

    The Scholarship Fund Review Committee evaluates applications based on:

  • School grades and academic performance

  • Accomplishments and leadership

  • Financial need

  • Character

  • Community activities

  • Experience as clubhouse staff
  • Note: Committee may interview applicants or request additional information/clarification.

    Award Announcement

    Recipients are announced at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game (typically in July).

    Application Process
