Global Maverick Access Scholarship

Funder: Minnesota State University, Mankato

Purpose: Minnesota State University, Mankato is dedicated to creating global opportunities by supporting students from underrepresented countries to make higher education more accessible.

Award Details:

  • Amount: $4,000 per recipient, distributed over four years of undergraduate study

  • Distribution: $500 per semester for up to 8 semesters

  • Number of Awards: 20 scholarships available

  • Award Type: Direct credit to tuition (no cash value)

    • Geographic Scope: First-year F-1 undergraduate students from targeted regions including:

  • Central and South America and the Caribbean

  • Central Asia

  • Eastern Europe

  • Middle East and Northern Africa

    • Eligibility Requirements:
    All applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Admission: Admitted to Minnesota State University in any undergraduate program

  • GPA: High School GPA of 3.5 or equivalent

  • Classification: First-year student (no prior university study)

  • Graduation Timing: Must have graduated from high school within 5 years of beginning undergraduate study at MSU

  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of one of the qualifying countries

    • Additional Terms & Conditions:

  • Must apply for fall intake

  • Scholarship recipients must enroll at Minnesota State University for the initial term in which they were admitted

  • If recipient defers their application to a future term, they will forfeit the scholarship award

  • Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress standards (SAPS); failure to do so results in forfeiture of future scholarship funds

  • Recipients are eligible to list up to $1,000 of the Global Maverick Access Scholarship and $3,840 of on-campus employment on the funding section of their Form I-20

  • Recipients will receive personalized support to secure on-campus employment starting in their first semester

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Login to KIC Portal
    - Access the Kearney International Center (KIC) portal with your account credentials

    2. Navigate to Application
    - Once logged in, go to Tab 3, Control Center
    - Access the Global Maverick Access Scholarship application form

    3. Submit Application
    - Complete the application form with required information
    - Submit by the deadline of May 1st

    4. Notification
    - Applicants will be notified of outcomes by May 15th

      Required Materials

    • Proof of admission to Minnesota State University
    • High school transcript showing GPA of 3.5 or equivalent
    • Proof of citizenship from a qualifying country
    • Confirmation of high school graduation date (within 5 years of undergraduate start)

      Important Notes

    • Application must be submitted by May 1st for fall intake
    • Notifications of scholarship awards by May 15th
    • If you do not meet all five eligibility requirements, your application will not be reviewed
